I don’t know that basics have ever been so important. Ever since layering, and no-rules fashion became en vogue, basics are essential for versatility and cool.
I wear T’s more than any other top. A t-shirt provides more comfort to a woven skirt. It looks easy and carefree doing a half-tuck with a long T, over slouchy pants. I’m crazy about the trend of adding a t-shirt under a typically summer or strappy dress. We need different lengths, weights and styles of T’s to get creative with our look. Here are the top 3 must haves:
1. A Cotton-Modal Crew T – this substantial-weight, yet form-fitting T is elevated and provides coverage. Not easy finding a T that isn’t a tissue T–this is the perfect T!
Banana Republic, Essential Short-Sleeve Crew Tee, $24.50.
2. A Long, Tunic T – a heavier-weight workhorse, yet still cozy enough to tuck a bit in, in front. It’s closer to the body, looking more tunic than oversized, men’s T. Slimming and lengthening when worn over a midi skirt.
QVC, Isaac Mizrahi Live! Essentials Curved Hem Tunic, $29.94.
3. A Feather-Weight, Slightly Sheer T – essential for layering under anything. Not too bulky under lightweight fabric, more polished and stylish than a cotton T under fabric like gabardine or wool.
& other Stories, Straight Fit Lyocell T-Shirt, $35.
