Pretty Grunge is not an oxymoron when it’s DSquared2–it’s their world of fancy subculture. When I first beheld what twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten designed for Fall 2017 I wanted to start yodeling, uh moshin? My first thought was Austrian Grunge! It was like an Oktoberfest, beer-drinker in lederhosen had fallen into a mosh pit, and emerged Squared. There is flannel plaid, lovelied-up with heavy ruffle trim. Combat boots paired with charming, watermelon candy-colored, resin earrings. Swiss Dot w/pleated black leather. There’s a cool to this, and the looks are fun and dreamy to put together. Play with these pieces and see every little thing they can be together. The collages below bring the fantasy to workable reality, and still hold the enchantment.
Grunge fashion began as unfashion, its followers not wanting to make a statement. That is a contradiction to DSquared2.
