Every year I anticipate the magic and fantasy of Bergdorf Goodman’s windows–excited to experience the nostalgic beginning to my holiday season. At Bergdorf’s, it’s always the bling, blingiest time of the year!
In that sparkly context, last year classic metallic neutrals told the story–with pops of color–save for one color-saturated window. The centerpiece of this colorful standout was a hot pink-clad, fortune-telling monkey looking into the future of a Gucci girl. Was it foretelling Gucci’s directional lead–the highly decorated vision of geek-chic? Or was it simply a nice transition to this season’s windows en masse, encrusted with saturated, amped-up color. The theme, Extravagant Destinations is a world where nature’s blues and greens are on acid. Even the more undertoned windows are still colored by dense texture.
In The Only Way to Fly window, there is a cheekily hidden Latin phrase that says, “Is Fenestra Partum Per Artifex,” and it means, “Is a Window Created by the Artist.” Bergdorf’s trademark wit, and nod to reality takes us on a dreamy trip where possibilities, wonder, hope, dignity and unspoiled kindness rule the land.
