How Over-50 Babes Do A Red Lip

Lips are a great place to bring color to your face. Red lips are such a look today, especially when paired with a natural-looking eye. At the Golden Globe Awards, plum-aged women looked sophisticated and chic with a standout red lip against the all black dress.

Too much lipstick, or gloss or intensity can emphasize small lips and lines around the lip. I almost always do a major blot with tissue on red lips, quikly, before the lipstick sets. The other critical move is picking the right color. I usually wear a shade of red that isn’t pure, blaring, red. The best way to figure out your shade, is to go to the cosmetics counter and try them out. And if you’ve already got a red at home that isn’t working, don’t be afraid to add pinks, corals, or neutrals on top of it to make it the shade you want.

As we age, (beautifully) less is usually more in the make-up area. That’s why a red lip over performs with it’s emphasis and bold color. Give red lips a try. If it’s not your thing, wipe it off and wear the bit of stain it’s created on your lips with lip balm over it. We can all use a little more rosiness in our lips, and in our new year.

Whatever the age, these beauties at the Golden Globes show great red lipstick ideas.
